You Should Write Literary Fiction

You are very well read and quite intellectual. You are picky about what you read and always appreciate craftsmanship. You probably already fancy yourself a bit of a writer, and you know that writing gets better with practice. You exercise that muscle. You think that literature should challenge us and open us up to the world. You like books that have something important to say. Do you re-read books? I do, I've lost track of the number of times I've read LOTR!

Oh yes, I do! Good books and fics are devoured again and again.

LotR is my absolutely most-re-read book of all time... I stopped counting at my 15th go at it, and no matter how often I have re-read it since, I STILL find new intriguing details I've missed out on my previous reads. Sometimes small details like a certain word that just jumps out at me, sometimes descriptions I've never given much thought before, sometimes whole passages that I have read before but suddenly somehow "get" or completely understand for the first time...
I've always likened reading LotR to a journey down a river - you always start at the same point and you always arrive at the same destination, but the stream does take you on a completely different journey every single time - there are eddies that catch you, small side-streams you may or may not explore, sometimes the water's slower and you get stuck for a time or the flood carries you along for a time only to spit you out at a rock or creek you never really noticed before...
