Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Nov. 16th, 2005 04:59 pmLast night I've been at the premiere of HP4... and I really don't know whether to love or hate it.
From a visual point of view the film's wonderful. There are some stunning animations (the dragons at the tournament for example), some really nice tracking shots,...
Textual the film's a mess.
You should think that scriptwriters actually READ the books they're making a movie of... but oh no... why should they? There could be the possibility that their scripts make sense in the end if they'd to it... *sigh*
You could also expect the scriptwriters to actually use the content of the book for the movie... but... again... NO. Obviously the can't - or won't. Fact is that you're going to have troubles to understand some things that are going on if you haven't read the books. And while they left out most of the books content, they somehow managed to get many scenes into the film that shouldn't be there yet or have never been written by JKR in this particular way.
Talking about the actors there are no surprises. Those who have the ability of acting do very well, those who haven't don't.
I particularly thought the cuts nervewracking. Everybody who's cutting a film for the first time would do it the same way... loveless, bumbling, poorly.
There is no concept behind most of the cuts - you don't understand why you're there while you were somewhere else for the last 5 seconds.
But yeah - there ARE some positive aspects in the movie.
First of all - Slytherins. *snicker*...
LUCIUS ... I really, really enjoyed seeing him not only at the graveyard but also at the Quidditch-world championship. ( and I do SO hate the fact that we don't see a part of the quidditch play!!!!)
DRACO ... the sweetest ferret EVER... and he's absolutely gorgeous wearing this suit at the Quidditch-world championship!
SEVERUS... unfortunately there are just one or two parts of the whole film where he's actually talking, but he's on screen for most of the time... and the scene he's in charge of their homework-lesson is absolutely amazing... I do so love his way of... aaaaaah... providing quietness ;) [go on! hit Harry with that book once again, you evil, sexy bastard!!!!]
Next thing I really enjoyed is the fact that Hermione is wearing a green-silver scarf at the worldchampionship [a goody for all the Hermione/Snape or Hermione/Draco shippers around the world?!]
And talking about Hermione - I really liked her irritated/desperate exclamation "men!" [or "guys" or whatever she's saying in the original version]
Furthermore I really liked Neville in the movie - it's so sad that Harry's the chosen one... Neville has so much more personality and ... he's just absolutely cute in his shy and clumsy way.
Aaaaaand... of course... the Weasley-Twins. They are ... well ... without them the movie would be at a total loss. They are cute, funny, wonderful, ... they are the heart and soul of the movie in a way.
I love them. I really do.
While the movie has been a little bit disappointing I loved being there in the crowd of people who love the Harry Potter books and movies.
I particulary adored the guys infront of us... about 12 or 13 years old and too cute to be true... every time Hermione appeared on screen they cheered and clapped and went all crazy... and their "Emma we love you!"-shout at the end of the movie when her name appeared on the credits saved the night.
And I really liked that many of the people there wore Wizzard-robes and wands ... and pointy hats... but no one wore school-uniforms... exept us... we demonstrated which house we're in.

- me at Starbucks waiting for the premiere to begin-

- a Gryffindor, a Ravenclaw and a Slytherin in front of the cinema-

- a Gryffindor and two Slytherin girls having fun-
