February Fandom Fest 15 - 18

And here we go again folks!

15 - Coffee

Yes, I'm a coffee-addict. I can't function without the dark brew of goodness and -quite frankly- I don't want to...

I'm the kind of anti-morning person that I'm not able to do more than grunt (on a very good day) before I've had my first sips of coffee. (Yes, I'm the first to admit that I'm a grumpy monster without coffee in the mornings... don't ever stand between me and the coffee machine if you want to live!) After approximately the first quarter of my cup I'm willing to try and talk - in short sentences... and after half a cup I'm a perfectly nice person who can converse fluently if needed ;)

But the morning pick-me-up is not nearly enough. I need a more or less constant caffeine-supply throughout the day to function properly. And on a stressful day I've been known to top it all off with a Red Bull or three ...

(the only physics I do understand!)

(friendly reminder on "how to survive being around me in the mornings")

(*hug* *hug* *hug*)

(story of my life!)

(tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies!!!!!)

16 - Orlando's Bum

Yes, you've read that correctly :D
Or - maybe I should title it "the way I react to Orlando's butt"?

To sum the backstory up: I've pleaded with Himself to get his hands on "Zulu" one way or another after I heard that the lovely Mister Bloom has a certain scene in the movie. Days, possibly weeks later I get a FaceTime-call in the middle of the night. I pick up and my lovely, lovely iPad-screen is filled with Orlando's gloriously naked bum. Thankfully for you, I've had the presence of mind to snap a few screenshots while squeeing happily... and I'd recommend you to wrench your eyes away from the naked glory to the top right corner to see my reaction ;)

(checking out the goods)

(yep, I'm impressed :D )

17 - Adult Colouring Books

I know, I know, from naked bums to colouring books is NOT a step you anticipated...

Anyway - my newest obsession started when Himself gifted me with a colouring book for Christmas. I was - sceptically delighted?!
I've never been a girl who liked to colour things. Or rather - I did like it, but I've never had the patience to stay within the lines when I was younger. And subsequently I always ended up being disappointed by my "drawings". So there's never been any love lost between me and colouring books.

But now that I am a responsible adult *coughs* I figured I'd at least give it a try before I ruled out that there was any possible fun to be had with those books. If it's advertised as THE thing people do to de-stress these days it can't be THAT bad, right? Plus I had an unused pack of artist pens in my drawer that I needed to buy in case the very remote possibility of me needing something like that ever arose - and voila! Here was the opportunity!

So I fished out the pens, dusted them off and set to colour in my first flower... needless to say, the next time I put the pens down was several hours and half of the page later! :)

Now, two months later, I'm officially obsessed! I'd never have thought, but the grown-up me really loves colouring - AND somehow somewhere I did pick up the patience to stay inside the lines ... Will wonders never cease?

(yes, I'm very partial to pink of any shade!)

( I coloured the owl while watching the ball drop on Times Square on CNN)

(I LOVE the little owls peeking in)

(pink leaves? Sure, why not?!)

(I called that one "the three seasons" - well, I could hardly colour "winter", right? *grins*)

(and another bunch of pretty colourful flowers)

(and that's the picture that started it all... )

18 - Photography

I love to play around with cameras and consequently with all the little things like lighting, motive, shutter time,...

Sadly, I don't do it as often as I should to get a real grip of the whole art, but I have fun none the less - and that's what counts most, right?

Apart from the general fascination with the art of photography, I particularly like the way your perception changes when you look through a view-finder. A simple walk through streets you've walked a thousand times suddenly becomes a journey of discovery once you stop hurrying along and take your times to find the beauty in the buildings and people around you.

Since most of my photos are on Himself's computer I'll give you two of my most favourite shots of Himself I've taken while we were out playing with night-shots nearly two years ago...

(caught in the act ;) - that shot reminds me a bit of James Dean)

(a blurry shot taken while walking down the street - I love the colourful lights in the background)

And.... I'm caught up! Who would have guessed that I actually manage to do that before the end of the month?! ;)

Coffee - yes, latte especially, and gingerbread latte in particular. I take a latte on the train with me every morning.

Orlando's bum. What more can I say? Actually nothing - I'm drooling. ;-)

Colouring - so many people are doing this now! Have you tried this?

Sorry, forgot the photos - I am full of admiration for someone who actually changes settings and stuff. I love taking pictures, but I like a camera that does all the work for me!

DAMN! I just accidentally deleted the lengthy reply I've just typed *sigh*

All right - one more time ;)

I somehow never got to like gingerbread latte. But I suspect that's mostly because the only variety I've tried was the stuff from Starbucks - and that's so not my thing *shudders*

I've had a very strange obsession with what my lovely coffee-shop called "Barbie latte" (in-between bouts of gagging) - a latte with raspberry syrup in it. Strange, I know. :D

Speaking of latte *giggles* There's a story from the time I visited London.
Right, so around here latte is pronounced something like 'late' (or probably it's easier to say exactly like it's spelled, but for clarification's sake I'll go with 'late' for now). When I fell out of the plane in Gatwick (Luton? Not sure which one was take-off and which one was landing) I needed a caffeine-fix badly. Very badly. So I entered the first coffee-shop I laid my eyes on and ordered a 'late' - which resulted in a strange look and the questions "do you mean a 'lateeeeey'?" This very same conversation happened for the next 4 days - I somehow couldn't wrap my head around the -as I termed it- "London-pronunciation". (Yep, it's me the English student *hangs head in shame*) Anyway - on our last day I entered another coffee shop, determined to get it right at least once, and ordered a "tall 'lateeeeey'" - which resulted in a frown, a raised eyebrow and the question "do you mean a 'late'?"
Himself nearly died laughing. 7 years later and I'm still torn between amusement and the need to hit my head against the nearest hard surface! :)

Right. On we go :)

I completely understand your lack of words concerning a certain bum. I might have spent a few minutes ogling and drooling after uploading the pics ;)

Thanks so much for the link! I didn't know there was colouring by numbers outside the "classic" "oil"-painting style thingies I had as a kid (which I really enjoyed for some reason). This one will definitely go on my wish-list! *hugs*

Ah, I'm not an expert on settings and stuff by far. I have some basic knowledge about shutter-times and aperture, but I'm relying mostly on the good old trial-and-error method when fiddling with the dials. Thankfully digital cameras allow for this approach - I've had an analogue SLR-camera for years and years and never used anything outside the automatic-mode because I feared to wast a roll of film (and therefore a lot of money) by trying things.
And yes, I still appreciate a camera that does all the work for me for any occasion except the times I actually want to play around with "real" photography. - Thank god for cell-phones with cameras, no more lugging around digi cams that always end up at the bottom of my handbag just when I need to snap a picture real quick :D

I pronounce it "la - tay" - that seems to work!

[identity profile] amruniel.livejournal.com 2016-02-22 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, if I'm ever back in the UK I'll try that one... maybe then I'll not be laughed at *sigh* ;)

Stupid pronunciation, really :D In my happy little world I dream of everything being spelled like its said :)
English is a particular nightmare in the spelling vs. pronunciation gap. Understandable when you look at the historical background, but a pain in the ass when you find yourself in an oral exam and are suddenly confronted with a word you've never spoken out loud before :)

Agreed - I feel sorry for anyone who has to learn our ridiculous language. I wouldn't worry though, your English is great and half the people in this country don't speak or spell it properly these days! You'd beat most of the people I see on Facebook any day!

[identity profile] amruniel.livejournal.com 2016-02-24 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I suspect native speakers (particularly the teen-aged ones - and/or those who want to pretend they're still young and hip) are more prone to mangling their language than non-native speakers.

I get the urge to hit somebody/something when I see the way people spell things online oftentimes. But the German-speaking portion of the texts/comments/posts are in no way better.

(And I can't believe how many people can't distinguish between "they're", "their" and "there". Come on, it's not rocket science people!)

And 'your' and 'you're'! Argh!

"two", "to" and "too"!!!!!

I can't understand how one can mix up "two" and "too"... I mean, come on!
