Follow Up to Yesterday's Post
Mar. 15th, 2014 04:34 amWhile I certainly had my stream of consciousness-moment yesterday, I didn't really explain my sudden obsession with RPS in general and VigOrli in specific.
Well, here's the story ;)
As I mentioned yesterday, stepping back into fandom was a way of escaping reality and simultaneously trying to get back some much-needed fun and excitement. Since I'm still really pissed with anything remotely connected with the Harry Potter franchise (damn you Rowling!) going back into the HP-fandom was not an option. Which left me with my first fandom love ever - The Lord of the Rings. This is where it all started, and consequently this is, where it all came back to me.
Around Christmas I got back into contact with one of my best and oldest "online" friends. I've known and loved her for years, I've dedicated at least one story and one OC to her, she's always been the one nagging and pushing and threatening me to write one more chapter (and she's probably been the only one I ever really listened to in this regard *smirk*)... in short - we fit in terms of fandom and taste in what a "good fiction" should entail.
So it didn't take long for us to get back to the topic of fanfics and one thing lead to another - she needed something to read, I knew I've read great things during the time we lost contact, so I went back to my saved fics, skimmed through them and stumbled upon my most favourite LotR-saga ever: The Mellon Chronicles by Cassia and Siobhan.
The MCs are an epic series describing the many, many, many adventures of Aragorn and Legolas. These stories are by far my most beloved LotR-stories ever. I love them to bits and pieces, I've read and re-read them about a thousand times, and the adventures described there, the characterisation, the great friendship portrayed there has by now become my personal head-canon for Aragorn and Legolas.
And while the MCs can be in no way even remotely considered a slash story, the love of the Ranger and the Elf pours out of every word, every line. They are just perfect!
To cut a long story short - we both started reading the MCs... and I was back!
The old slasher deep inside me reared its beautiful head and man, I just went into an Aragorn/Legolas (or Aralas, as I learned *g*) frenzy. I read far and wide and everything I could lay my hands on and finally I stumbled upon a great author that just wrote exactly what I have been looking for - well-written, emotional, hot, sexy A/L-slash with the most perfect characterisations, great storylines and everything my heart was longing for.
This wonderful author is
surreysmum and if you're not familiar with her stories, I'd strongly suggest going there NOW! A list of her fics can be found here.
I read (i.e. inhaled like an addict getting his much-needed fix) all her non-f-locked stories in record time, and I wanted, nah, needed more! So, I begged shamelessly ;) and got friended and -wow- a whole new world opened up to me shortly thereafter. After I finished reading all the wonderful f-locked A/L-fics I desperately needed more and so I crossed over to the dark side and read my first VigOrli fic...
Weeeeeell... I think you can all guess what happened ;) I fell fast and hard... I became utterly addicted to the beautiful, wonderful, sinful, ah so glorious men and well, I haven't been the same since ;) So yeah,
surreysmum is the real reason for my new obsession and I couldn't be more thankful for that. She's a wonderful author and made it very easy for me to fall in love with RPS... (and while it sure is an added bonus that I've always loved both Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom, I guess she could have made me fall in love with let's say Andy Serkins and Sean Astin shagging like rabbits, because her writing is that good!)
And that's the story behind my sudden obsession with VigOrli :)
On a personal side-note: I've been shopping today... three pairs of new sunglasses ... I needed ONE pair... but hey, what can a girl do? ;) If they fit - I buy!
