Since I've been in bed with a splitting headache yesterday evening, today's summary-post is even longer ;)

12 - Penguins

I've grown up with "Pingu" on TV and the sweet little guy started a life-long obsession with those animals... Years later I've met my match ;)
Himself is probably an even bigger fan of those sweet little guys in their black and white suits. And because he's worth it, I've got him a very special present for his birthday in 2010 - the wonderful Zoo Vienna had a -very costly- "Behind the Scenes" baggage which included the opportunity of meeting and feeding the penguins ... Let's just say we've had the time of our lives :)

(the little guy that started it all)

(a younger me happily being squished by penguins ;) )

(this little guy took a liking to my ring - allegedly these penguins like everything shiny and are known for stealing tools from their keepers whenever they turn their back for 5 seconds)

(me being the chosen midday snack of this little guy... he STILL wanted to get the ring ;) )

(Himself -blurred out because not everybody needs to know his face- and me feeding the Humboldt-penguins)

13 - Stephane Lambiel

I've always liked figure skating. Whenever I happen upon a TV broadcast of any figure skating event I'll stop whatever I'm doing to watch. I think I like this particular discipline so much because it's -in essence- just another aspect of dancing.

I'm particularly fond of the gala events at the end of major tournaments because that's when the true beauty of the sport comes out to shine. Yes, their routines throughout the tournaments are pretty impressive, but I love it the most when the athletes are allowed to dress up and do whatever they want to do ;) These galas are also the place where you can oftentimes see the true potential of the athletes - some are simply born to dance on ice, while others struggle with this freedom.

Anyway - I've been watching the gala event of the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver when Stephane first caught my eye. His performance to "Ne me quitte pas" by Jacques Brel was... something else :)

But first things first - that's the guy I'm talking about:

(does he remind you of somebody? *giggles*)

Now that you know that he's certainly one of the better best looking figure skaters, here's his performance in Vancouver:

(beautiful, isn't it?)

I was impressed and a bit in love ;) but I had to study for a literature exam at the time so thoughts of him very soon were replaced by Marlowe, Shakespeare and co.
Fast forward four years to the day I found out that Himself didn't know Evgeni Plushenko *gasp* Not only didn't he have a clue who that was, he didn't at all get why I was so excited about the fact that he would skate at the Olympic Games in Sochi. To rectify that sorry fact I dragged the poor man in front of the TV and made him sit through the YouTube video of the Vancouver Gala. And the moment Stephane entered the screen my man turned to me and said something along the line of "I can't believe you're not fangirling that guy - he's SO your type!" *snort* Let's just say 3 minutes later I wasn't the only one in the room fangirling Stephane :D
So we spent the remainder of the evening watching videos of him doing what he does best - dance.

Because that's what he's really best in. This very handsome talented guy is a dancer at heart. He had his successes in professional figure skating, sure, but when all things are said and done he's so much better in a setting where he doesn't have to meet the requirements of a tournament, but is allowed to just tell us a story and dance.

Here are some of my favorite bits of skating by Stephane:

(Art on Ice 2013)

(he'd look good with tattoos ;) - and this clip beautifully shows that skating works perfectly well with rock as well)

(the beginning and the end...)

(about a million times more sexy than Britney and Justin Timberlake - and the perfect example how a pop choreography works just as well on ice ... and I feel a bit connected to him because I did some performances of "Sexy Back" myself back in the day ;) - but he's way better looking)

And the best part? Lovely, lovely Stephane is rumoured to be gay (no shit! A gay figure skater, who would have thought... *gasps*) or at least bi. He never commented one way or another just saying that sexuality shouldn't matter, but there are some clues... One guy he repeatedly got connected with is Johnny Weir -who IS out- and the rumour mill apparently got pretty excited when Stephane moved to Johnny's hometown in New Jersey to "surprise his friend"... ;)
Regardless if the guys were together at some point - let's just say that the following video of the boys dancing together doesn't really support the "Stephane is straight"-angle... but maybe that's just me and getting my brain fried by a hot guy flirty-dancing with another guy :D

And anyway - Stephane's ass is worth ogling one way or another :D

14 - My Phone's Wallpaper

Yes, the 14 should probably be dedicated to Himself, but since the good guy ignores Valentine's Day, I'm ignoring him *pouts*

So, this spot belongs to the next best thing - the picture that makes me smile every time I use my phone :D

No need to explain why, right? *happy sigh*

Right, I think I'll stop here for now - it's 2 am and I should be on my way to bed sooner or later and there are still some comments waiting to be answered... I'll try to recap the next three days tomorrow, promise!

Gorgeous gorgeous girl!

Penguins are cute too!

There used to someone on my flist who was a huge Johnny Weir fan so I have heard of him. :-)

I love watching figure skating or ice dancing - I can even skate very badly and in a forwards direction only! LOL! I can still remember Torville and Dean and how they stunned everyone with their Bolero performance. Nobody talked about anything else for days.

Awwww *blushes* Thank you, darling!

Penguins are VERY cute! (And very dumb *giggles* I still can't believe that Emperor Penguins forget where they are and -more importantly- who those guys that are bringing them yummy fish are from one day to the next!)

I've never understood where the fascination with Johnny Weir is/was. I never found his performances particularly outstanding, and -well tastes differ, but... he's just not a person I'd look at for more than approximately 3 seconds.
I know there's quite a fanbase of his out there - but yeah... :)

I haven't been on skates for some years but when I went skating more regularly I didn't do too bad, I'd say. I could do forward and back crossovers, a few spins and spirals (dancing helped there a lot), but nothing really fancy.

Oh yes, I've seen Torville and Dean's Bolero! It might have taken place before I was born, but it's still a "must see" if you're a fan of ice dancing, I'd see. So beautiful! I particularly love the beginning!

Well you've got to remember I'm an old middle-aged lady. ;-)

First of all: you're not old!!!!! (Himself repeatedly tells me that one is just as old as one feels and fuck the numbers ;) )

And secondly: I've seen really old (aka blue-ish hair-dye old!) ladies skating rounds around me that got my head spinning. More years of experience, I guess ;)

Nearer 60 than 50 sounds old?

Mind you, I can start to plan my retirement! Whoot!

You're younger than my mum and I forbid her to call herself "old" - so that goes doubly for you!

Retirement, however, is a great side effect of age... or let's call it "experience", sounds a lot nicer, doesn't it? ;)

*hugs*
