28 - Oscars

For obvious reasons I've waited until today to mention my love for the Oscars.
I'm sitting here armed with a strong cup of coffee, waiting for the show to begin - or at least for the stars to arrive at the red carpet.

I sincerely hope that Leonardo DiCaprio will finally get his very well-deserved Oscar tonight. I want to write my bachelor's thesis about at least one Oscar-winning movie! (If I'm not allowed to write about LotR *sigh* *cries*, let me have that at least, please!)

As I mentioned yesterday, I dream about a career at the movies... and, obviously, getting nominated for the best-known film award is something I tend to daydream about from time to time :) (not to mention that I'd love to wear one of the wonderful dresses you need for an award show of this size and esteem ;) ).

Anyway - I've been an avid watcher of the televised award shows for the last 10+ years, and below the cut I'll give you my personal favourite Oscar moments ever.

Let's start with the most obvious choice, right?

The clean sweep for Lord of the Rings:

I have to admit, I've been sitting in front of my TV the whole night, biting my nails, crossing my fingers - and when the last category of the evening was awarded, I cried like a baby.
What a wonderful night!

Michael Moor's legendary speech:

Heath Ledger winning the Oscar posthumous

Another moment that had me crying buckets. It's still unbelievable that this wonderful and extraordinarily talented actor has been taken from us so young.
And his performance as Joker is so unbelievable iconic that it makes this loss even more bitter. Heath has been the most talented and dedicated actor of his age. His loss is still mourned.

Jack Black, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilley singing

I'm a sucker for the music-numbers. And I'm a huge fan of Jack Black. No better combination there. This number entertained me quite a bit.

And I'll finish this list with my most favourite opening number of all times...

Hugh Jackman hosting the Oscars has been the most fun I've had with any host during the last years. And his opening number is simply amazing. Hugh singing. Need I say more????!

I've never actually seen the Hugh Jackman opening number before - that was brilliant! Thanks for posting it.

There's another bit of the show I liked very much - Hugh's "The Musical is Back"-performance ;) :

I'd definitely watch a musical with him as a lead ;)

That was good!

I have just booked tickets to see Chicago at MK theatre. I love Musicals and Chicago is one I haven't seen yet so I am looking forward to it very much!

Oh, how very lovely!

I love musicals, and living in a city where musicals are part of our theatre-tradition I should be the happiest girl alive ... but Himself loathes musicals for some reason. And I really don't want to go alone. So I'm relying on other people to gift us with tickets, so he's forced to go with me *grins*

There's currently a musical of "Mary Poppins" in the city, which has absolutely wonderful reviews, but I guess I'll miss that one as well *sigh*
