04 - Scene that Makes You Cry
Really? I mean... REALLY????????!
As I mentioned before I'm a crying mess during most of the third film - never mention various scenes in the first and second... how the hell should I be able to pick ONE scene that makes me cry?????
Right, let's do that another way... I'll tell you about the scenes that make me cry in each movie :)
(Warning: this might take some time :D)
FELLOWSHIP:
I usually get a bit teary-eyed (but have never outright cried) when Bilbo leaves the Shire

Aragorn singing in the marshes (EE)

The "I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone"-scene

The scene with Elrond and Aragorn at his mum's gravestone - "I do not want that power. I have never wanted it."

The Fellowship mourning after Gandalf fell into the abyss

Haldir's pride when the fellowship first sees Caras Galadhon - "Caras Galadhon… the heart of Elvendom on earth. Realm of the Lord Celeborn and of Galadriel, Lady of Light."

Sam's poem about Gandalf's fireworks

Gimli waxing poetic about Galadriel and her gift

And -of course- Aragorn's conversation with Galadriel - "Galadriel: "I have nothing greater to give, than the gift you already bear. Am meleth dîn. I ant e-guil Arwen Undómiel…pelitha." (For her love, I fear the grace of Arwen Evenstar… will diminish.) - Aragorn: "Aníron i e broniatha ar periatham amar hen. Aníron e ciratha a Valannor." (I would have her leave these shores, and be with her people. I would have her take the ship to Valinor.)"

Aragorn seemingly reaching for the ring, but closing Frodo's hand around it instead - ""I would have gone with you to the end, into the very fires of Mordor."

Lurtz delivering the final shot, Boromir on his knees

Boromir's last words

Sam's "I made a promise, Mister Frodo. A promise! 'Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee.' And I don't mean to! I don't mean to."

Aragorn strapping on Boromir's gauntlets

"Sam, I'm glad you're with me"

TWO TOWERS
The Wildmen raiding a village - a mother sending her children to Rohan

Grima and Eowyn - Èowyn: "Leave me alone snake!" - Gríma: "Oh but you are alone!" - Gríma: "Who knows what you have spoken to the darkness. In bitter watches of the night. When all your life seems to shrink. The walls of your bower closing in about you. A hatch to trammel some wild thing... So fair, so cold, like a morning pale spring still clinging to winter's chill."

"No parent should have to bury their child."

Elrond and Arwen talking about future!Aragorn dying - "Elrond: "Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you. No comfort to ease the pain of his passing... He will come to death. An image of the splendor of the kings of men in glory, undimmed before the breaking of the world... But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt. As night falling winter has come without a star... Here you will dwell, bound to you grief, under the fading trees, until all the world has changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent."

The "Le abdollen"-scene

Theoden being outfitted and his "Who am I, Gamling"-speech

"We have trusted you this far and you have not led us astray. Forgive me. I was wrong to despair." - Aragorn: Ú-moe edamed, Legolas." (There is nothing to forgive, Legolas.)

Haldir dying

"It's like in the great stories, Mister Frodo..."-sequence

Sam's "I wonder if we'll ever be put into songs or tales." speech

RETURN OF THE KING
Arwen's vision of Aragor and their son

Arwen going back, confronting Elrond and choosing a mortal life, and then the re-forging of the sword

"Mister Frodo, look. The king has got a crown again."

The lighting of the beacons <3

Frodo: "You can't help me anymore." - Sam: "You don't mean that." - Frodo: "Go home."

Faramir and his men riding to the gates

Pippin singing - Denethor devouring his food - Faramir riding to certain doom

Elrond gifting Aragorn with Anduril - Elrond: "Andúril… Flame of the West. Forged from the shards of Narsil." - Aragorn: "Sauron will not have forgotten the Sword of Elendil." - "The blade that was broken shall return to Minas Tirith." - Elrond: "The man who can wield the power of this sword can summon to him an army more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the ranger. Become who you were born to be."

Legolas comforting Aragorn after they exit the Paths of the Dead

Theoden addressing his army - "Arise! Arise! Riders of Théoden! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword-day! A red day, ere the sun rises! ... Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!"

Gandalf and Pippin talking about dying - Pippin: "I didn't think it would end this way." ... Gandalf: "End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path. One that we all must take." ... Gandalf: "The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass. And then you see it." ... Pippin: "What, Gandalf? See what?" ... Gandalf: "White shores. And beyond, the far green country, under a swift sunrise."

Theoden dying - Théoden: "I know your face. Éowyn. My eyes darken." ... Éowyn: "No. No, I am going to save you." ... Théoden: "You already did. Éowyn, my body is broken. You have to let me go. I go to my fathers in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed."

Pippin finding Merry's brooch, Eomer finding Eowyn unconscious

Pippin finding Merry

Sam finally conceding that there will be no return journey after giving Frodo the last of the water to drink

Sam remembering the Shire - "Do you remember the Shire, Mister Frodo? It'll be spring soon, and the Orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket and they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields. And eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?" Frodo: "No, Sam, I can't recall the taste of food. Nor the sound of water. Or the touch of grass. I'm naked in the dark. There's nothing… no veil… between me and the wheel of fire! I can see him with my waking eyes!" Sam: "Then let us be rid of it, once and for all! Come on, Mister Frodo. I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you! Come on!"

"For Frodo"

"The eagles are coming!"
Aragorn being thrown on the ground, nearly being trampled by a troll - Legolas desperately trying to reach him

Frodo falling over the cliff, trying to reach Sam's hand - Sam: "No! Don't you let go! Don't let go. Reach!"

Frodo and Sam in the middle of the lava - Frodo: "It's gone. It's done. - Sam: "Yes, Mister Frodo. It's over now." - Frodo: "I can see the Shire… the Brandywine River… Bag End… Gandalf's fireworks… the lights in the Party Tree... Rosie Cotton dancing. She had ribbons in her hair. If ever I was to marry someone, it would've been her....... It would've been her." - Frodo: "I'm glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee, here at the end of all things."

Frodo awakes in Minas Tirith

"Now come the days of the king. May they be blessed."

"Hannon le!"

Arwen's laughter after Aragorn kisses her

"My friends! You bow to no one."

Sam very probably kissing Rosie for the first time

Gandalf: "Here at last, on the shores of the sea, comes the end of our Fellowship. I will not say, do not weep, for not all tears are an evil."

Frodo saying goodbye and his smile

"Well, I'm back" and the closing door

I'm not crying at every one of these scenes every time, but I HAVE cried at all of them (and probably some more) at some point...

Date: 2016-03-06 01:54 am (UTC)I'll try to save/upload/change them once I've got a bit more time... Grrrrrr.
Really? The death(s) in BOTFA left me completly cold. I got a bit misty-eyed when Thranduil sent out Legolast to find some ranger, though ;)

Date: 2016-03-07 12:19 am (UTC)At least the Bilbo angle. I always disliked the Tauriel character so much that I can't even feel for her in this situation.

Date: 2016-03-08 10:42 am (UTC)I changed it to Silvs fiction after they announced the name of the character in the film, partly because my boys were older and I was no longer quite so worried about keeping stuff away from them, but also because I didn't want any typos in Google finding my fic journal!
Watching the movies later and putting aside the fact that I didn't like her, I thought she did a good job.

Date: 2016-03-08 11:26 am (UTC)I know, I of all people should be able to step back and let personal feelings out of an analysis, but with Evangeline/Tauriel I really couldn't (and still can't) overcome my dislike of her and letting this dislike colour my perception of her acting.
So, I'm the first to admit that I can in no way judge her job in bringing Tauriel to life - but let's just say that if her acting-skills haven't skyrocketed since her (early) "LOST"-days I'm reasonabley sure I wouldn't be a fan of hers either, even if it were the first time I heared about her as an actress/wouldn't know anything about her/....
